Terms & conditions
Last updated: 1 November 2026
These terms apply to every A2Z Rentals vehicle subscription. Please read them before you sign. When you collect a vehicle you also sign a rental agreement for that specific car; where the two differ, the signed rental agreement applies.
1Who we are
A2Z Rentals is a trading name of [legal entity name], NZBN [NZBN], of [registered address] ("we", "us", "our"). You can reach us on 021 971329 or at info@a2zrentals.co.nz.
We operate under rental service licence [licence number].
2What a subscription is, and what it is not
A subscription is a rental of a vehicle for a weekly fee. We own the vehicle throughout and you have the right to use it while your subscription is active and you are meeting these terms.
It is not a credit contract, a hire purchase agreement, a lease to own, or rent-to-buy. No money is lent to you, no credit is extended, and you never acquire any ownership interest in the vehicle. There is no option to purchase at any stage. Because no credit is provided, the Credit Contracts and Consumer Finance Act 2003 does not apply and we do not carry out a credit check.
3Who can subscribe and who can drive
- You must be at least 21 years old.
- You must live in the Auckland region.
- You must hold a current [full NZ licence / full or restricted / overseas equivalent — specify] driver licence, held for at least [period], and produce the physical licence at collection.
- Overseas licences: [state whether accepted, and whether a translation or IDP is required]
- Only drivers we have approved in writing and named on the rental agreement may drive the vehicle. Letting anyone else drive it is a breach of these terms and may void insurance cover.
We assess every application for affordability and licence validity. We may decline an application, and we do not have to give a reason.
4How long a subscription runs
- Subscriptions run month to month.
- The initial period is up to six months.
- If payments have been met and the vehicle is in good condition, we may offer a renewal of up to a further six months, giving up to twelve months in total on the same vehicle. Renewal is at our discretion and is not automatic.
- No new set-up fee applies when you renew on the same vehicle. Changing to a different vehicle is a new subscription and a new set-up fee applies.
5What you pay
Set-up fee. A one-off fee of $500, payable before you collect the vehicle. It is [refundable / non-refundable — specify].
Weekly fee. The amount shown on your rental agreement. Your first weekly payment is taken in the week following collection, and weekly thereafter by [direct debit / automatic card payment] on [day of week].
Bond. [State whether a bond or security deposit is held, how much, and when it is returned — or delete this clause]
If a payment fails. We will contact you. A fee of [$amount] may apply to each failed payment. If payment remains outstanding for [number] days we may suspend or end the subscription and recover the vehicle under clause 13.
All amounts include GST.
6What the weekly fee covers
- Comprehensive motor vehicle insurance, subject to clause 9
- Scheduled servicing
- Mechanical repairs arising from normal use and fair wear and tear
- Warrant of Fitness
- Vehicle registration and licensing
- AA Roadside Assistance
7What you pay for separately
- Fuel, and keeping fluid levels and tyre pressures correct
- Tolls and road user charges
- Traffic and parking infringements (clause 12)
- Kilometres over your monthly allowance (clause 8)
- Damage liability where you are at fault (clause 9)
- Cleaning beyond normal use, charged at [$amount]
- Lost keys, and recovery of the vehicle if it is immobilised through your actions
8Kilometre allowance
Your plan sets a monthly allowance: Bronze 1,250 km, Silver 1,667 km, Gold 2,500 km. Usage is measured from the odometer.
Unused kilometres [do / do not] carry over. Kilometres over the allowance are charged at [$X.XX per km], billed [monthly / on return]. If you regularly exceed your allowance, talk to us about moving up a plan.
9Insurance and damage liability
The vehicle is insured with [insurer name] under policy [policy reference]. A summary of the cover is available on request.
If you are at fault in an incident, you pay the damage liability amount for your plan, and no more, towards the repair:
- Bronze — $5,000
- Silver — $2,500
- Gold — $750
Damage liability is not a weekly charge. It only applies if an incident occurs.
When cover may not apply. Insurance may be refused, and you may be responsible for the full cost of repair or replacement, if the loss happens while:
- the driver was not an approved named driver;
- the driver was over the legal alcohol limit, or affected by drugs;
- the driver did not hold a valid licence for the vehicle;
- the vehicle was used in breach of clause 10;
- the incident was not reported to us and, where required, to Police within [timeframe]; or
- any other exclusion in the insurance policy applies.
10Using the vehicle
You must keep the vehicle secure, keep it in the condition you received it apart from fair wear and tear, and use it lawfully. You must not:
- drive while over the legal alcohol limit or affected by drugs;
- let an unapproved person drive it;
- use it for hire or reward — taxi, rideshare or courier work — unless we have agreed in writing [confirm whether rideshare is permitted, and on what terms];
- use it for racing, motorsport, driver training, or off-road driving;
- tow anything, or carry a load beyond the manufacturer's rating;
- carry hazardous goods, or anything that damages the interior;
- take it on a beach, a ford, or any road the insurer excludes;
- take it outside the [Auckland region / North Island / New Zealand] without our written agreement;
- smoke or vape in it;
- carry animals, other than [assistance dogs / state policy];
- modify it, or fit anything to it;
- sell, sublet, lend, pledge or part with possession of it.
11Servicing, repairs and breakdowns
Contact us as soon as a warning light comes on, a noise develops, or anything stops working. Scheduled servicing and repairs from normal use are ours to arrange and pay for. You must make the vehicle available for servicing when we ask, giving reasonable notice both ways.
Do not arrange your own repairs. We will not reimburse work we have not approved in advance, except for genuine emergencies.
If the vehicle is off the road for repairs for more than [number] consecutive days through no fault of yours, we will [provide a replacement vehicle / credit the weekly fee pro rata].
12Infringements, tolls and Police matters
You are responsible for every traffic or parking infringement, toll and road user charge incurred while the vehicle is in your possession.
Where an infringement notice is issued to us as owner, we will transfer liability to you by statutory declaration as the Land Transport Act 1998 allows, and we will give the issuing authority your name, address and licence details. An administration fee of [$amount] applies to each transfer.
Charging your card. By agreeing to these terms you authorise us to charge any infringement fee, toll or road user charge, plus the administration fee, to the payment method you have given us. You have the right to request a court hearing in respect of an infringement notice within the statutory timeframe; transferring liability to you does not affect that right.
Compliance check: the Land Transport (Offences and Penalties) Amendment Regulations 2017 prohibit a rental service licence holder from charging an infringement fee to a hirer's card unless the hirer was notified of specified matters in the rental service agreement. Have a lawyer confirm this clause and your signed rental agreement list every matter those regulations require.
13Ending the subscription
You can cancel at any time by giving us one month's written notice. Weekly payments continue through the notice period. There is no break fee.
We can end it immediately, and recover the vehicle, if you:
- fail to pay and do not fix it after we ask;
- breach clause 10;
- gave us false information when applying;
- lose your driver licence; or
- are declared bankrupt or become insolvent.
Returning the vehicle. Return it to [return location] during opening hours, with the same fuel level it had at collection, reasonably clean, with all keys and accessories. We will inspect it with you where possible. Charges for damage beyond fair wear and tear, missing items, cleaning or missing fuel will be itemised and explained before we charge them.
14Our liability, and your consumer rights
Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986 where you are a consumer. Those rights apply regardless of anything written here.
If you subscribe for business purposes, you and we agree the Consumer Guarantees Act does not apply, to the extent the Act permits.
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss — including lost income, lost opportunity, or the cost of alternative transport — arising from the vehicle being unavailable. Our total liability is limited to [the fees paid in the preceding X months / $amount].
We are not responsible for property you leave in the vehicle.
15Gold plan fuel voucher draw
Customers with an active Gold subscription are entered automatically. No entry fee applies. One winner is drawn on the 1st of each month and contacted by phone or email. The prize is one $100 fuel voucher and is not exchangeable for cash. Our employees and their immediate families are not eligible. We may change or withdraw the draw on [notice period] notice.
16Privacy
We collect and handle your personal information as set out in our privacy policy, which forms part of these terms.
17Changes to these terms
We may change these terms. We will give you at least [number] days' notice by email of any change that affects an active subscription. If a change materially disadvantages you, you may cancel under clause 13 without the usual notice period.
18Complaints, disputes and governing law
If something has gone wrong, tell us first — call 021 971329 or email info@a2zrentals.co.nz, and we will respond within [number] working days. If we cannot resolve it between us, either of us may refer the matter to the Disputes Tribunal or the courts.
These terms are governed by New Zealand law and the New Zealand courts have jurisdiction.
